Flammable x Inflammable

Why do we have two words with the same meaning in English? Given the fact that both 'flammable' and 'inflammable' mean the same, which one should we use?

Well, both are correct. The reason why we have two words is that flammable, which came later, was introduced due to the fact that people used to think INflammable meant NON-flammable, when it's the other way around.
